The OpportunityLesley University seeks an Instructor or Assistant
Professor in the Art Therapy program to join our highly evolved and
uniquely conceptualized Expressive Therapies Department. The
qualified applicant will teach courses in Art Therapy in the
Expressive Therapies Department. In addition to teaching, the ideal
candidate will have administrative responsibilities in coordinating
the Art Therapy program.
Our pace-setting programs provide a meaningful connection between
the arts, theory, and practice in clinical training. As one of the
most recognized ET programs in the world, our students are expertly
trained and qualified providers of mental health services.
The goal of the Expressive Therapies department is to give students
the knowledge, skills, and experience needed to practice in a range
of professional settings, including health care facilities,
schools, community agencies, and private practices. The Expressive
Therapies 60-credit programs are designed to meet the academic and
field training requirements for mental health counselor licensure
in Massachusetts, and our specialization tracks prepare graduates
for certification by national and professional associations.
When the Expressive Therapies program was founded in 1974, it was
one of the first graduate programs in the country to train
professionals in this emerging, creative, and vital field. More
than 50 years later, the program continues to push the boundaries
of expressive therapies knowledge and training. Our extraordinary
faculty of artist-practitioner-scholars helps students to develop
their identities as artists and clinical mental health
providers.
Qualities and Capabilities Qualifications for Instructor:
- Master's degree in art therapy, expressive therapies,
psychology, education, arts, or related field (required)
- Art therapy credentials: possess national certification in the
field of Art Therapy by an organization accredited by the National
Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA).
- Two+ years of teaching experience and proficiency in online
teaching.
- Five+ years of clinical experience with a record of scholarly
activity.
- Ability to teach related courses in expressive therapies and
general counseling such as theories, principles and practices, etc.
is preferred.
- Experience related to administration of a program is
preferred.Additional Qualifications for Assistant Professor:
- PhD or equivalent doctoral-level degree in art therapy or
closely related discipline (ABD with completion of dissertation by
date certain).
- Record of academic scholarship (research, writing, etc.).Why
